January 15, 2024(4 events) CANCELLED: MLK Day Community Orchard Work Party10:00 am – 1:00 pm (Northeast Portland)CANCELLED DUE TO WINTER WEATHER: Join the Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) for a day of service at the Sabin Community Orchard to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Sabin Orchard, nestled in the heart of NE Portland, is a flourishing green space that hosts a variety of fruit trees. PFTP, a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable urban agriculture, has partnered with the local community to organize this event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to participate in the MLK Day work party. The day’s activities will include pruning, weeding, mulching, and other essential tasks to ensure the orchard’s continued productivity. We will also make mason bee houses and kaolin clay-dipped bags, to be used in the orchards this spring. All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, and participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for outdoor activities.
